Spring and Fall (The “Sweet Spot”)
The absolute best time to snorkel in Maui is during the shoulder seasons of April–May and September–October. These months offer the perfect combination of great weather and fewer crowds.

April–May: The winter swells have subsided, and the trade winds are typically light. The water is calm and visibility is excellent.

September–October: This period sees warm water temperatures and calm seas, similar to summer, but with fewer tourists. It’s a great time to enjoy popular spots without the crowds.

Summer (Peak Season)
From June to August, Maui is at its sunniest and warmest. The seas are generally calm, especially on the protected south and west sides of the island. While this is a great time for snorkeling, it’s also the peak tourist season, so beaches and snorkel spots will be more crowded.

Winter (Whale Season)
November to March is Maui’s rainy season and when the famous winter swells roll in. While this is the prime time for whale watching, it’s generally the least ideal for snorkeling due to rougher, choppier seas and lower visibility, especially on the north and east-facing shores.
